Ingredients
  

Beans
  • 1 cup dried navy beans soaked overnight
Sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
Aromatics
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
Liquid
  • 2 cups water

Method
 

Prepare the Beans
  1. Rinse and soak the navy beans in water overnight. Drain and set aside.
Cook the Beans
  1. In a Dutch oven, combine soaked beans, chopped onion, minced garlic, and water. Bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 2 hours until beans are tender.
Make the Sauce
  1. In a bowl, mix together ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, mustard powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper.
Combine and Bake
  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C). Stir the sauce into the beans, cover, and transfer to the oven.
  2. Bake for 1.5 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally, until thickened and bubbly.

Notes
