bbq chicken sandwich

A delicious and hearty BBQ chicken sandwich made with tender shredded chicken, tangy barbecue sauce, and served on a toasted bun.

Ingredients
  

Chicken
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs
BBQ Sauce
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce your favorite brand
Buns
  • 4 pieces burger buns toasted
Toppings
  • 1 cup coleslaw optional
  • 1 cup sliced pickles optional

Method
 

Prepare the Chicken
  1. Place the chicken breasts in a slow cooker and pour the barbecue sauce over them. Cook on low for 6-7 hours or high for 3-4 hours until the chicken is tender and easily shredded.
Shred the Chicken
  1. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Return the shredded chicken to the slow cooker and mix it with the remaining barbecue sauce.
Toast the Buns
  1. While the chicken is cooking, toast the burger buns in a toaster until golden brown.
Assemble the Sandwich
  1. Spoon a generous amount of the BBQ chicken onto the bottom half of each toasted bun. Top with coleslaw and pickles if desired, then place the top half of the bun on each sandwich.
