  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium sweet onion, diced
  • 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup provolone or cheddar cheese, shredded (divided)
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Sauté diced onion and green bell pepper in a skillet over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until softened.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed vegetables, garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined without overmixing.
  4. Fold in half of the shredded cheese into the meat mixture.
  5. Shape the mixture into a loaf on a lined baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 60-70 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
  7. Add remaining cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking until melted.
