- 1 green bell pepper, finely diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup provolone or cheddar cheese, shredded (divided)
- 1/2 cup ketchup
- 2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sauté diced onion and green bell pepper in a skillet over medium heat for about 5-7 minutes until softened.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed vegetables, garlic, breadcrumbs, eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined without overmixing.
- Fold in half of the shredded cheese into the meat mixture.
- Shape the mixture into a loaf on a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 60-70 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
- Add remaining cheese on top during the last 10 minutes of baking until melted.
