  • 2 lbs Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (for greasing)
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  3. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and pepper; warm through without boiling.
  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish; pour half of the creamy sauce over them.
  5. Sprinkle half of the cheddar and Gruyère cheeses on top.
  6. Repeat the layering process with the remaining potatoes, sauce, and cheese.
  7. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes; then remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
