- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- Purple gel food coloring
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare two greased and lined 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream the softened butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
- Add the eggs one at a time followed by the vanilla extract; mix until smooth.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients.
- Stir in purple food coloring until your desired shade is achieved.
- Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool cakes in pans for about 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
