Description

Apple strudel is a delightful dessert that combines flaky pastry with spiced apples, creating a warm and comforting experience.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter (cold)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups firm apples (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp, sliced)
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg (beaten) for egg wash

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dough by mixing flour and cold butter until crumbly. Gradually add water until a soft dough forms. Wrap in plastic and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface into a thin rectangle (about 1/8 inch thick).
  3. In a bowl, combine sliced apples with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and breadcrumbs.
  4. Spread the apple filling evenly along one edge of the pastry rectangle. Fold over the edges and roll tightly into a log shape.
  5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the strudel seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet and brush with egg wash. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Let cool slightly before slicing and serve warm, optionally dusted with powdered sugar or alongside vanilla ice cream.
