Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in buttermilk and vanilla until combined.
- Divide the batter between prepared pans and bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool.
- For frosting, combine evaporated milk, brown sugar, butter, egg yolks, and vanilla in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until thickened (about 10 minutes). Mix in pecans and coconut. Let cool before spreading on cooled cakes.
